The Privilege of a Scholarship
A scholarship is a privilege that comes with great responsibility. It is a recognition of an individual’s academic excellence, hard work, and dedication to their studies.

I feel like I’ve been robbed of my youth and the opportunities that came with it. As I reflect on my life, I am reminded of the numerous opportunities that I had back in the day. I had the chance to attend a prestigious university, where I was exposed to some of the best minds in the field. I was surrounded by people who were passionate about their work and were driven to succeed.
Why did I waste my time on trivial things?
The Impact of Trivial Pursuits
When we spend our time on trivial pursuits, we can miss out on opportunities to develop our skills, build our knowledge, and achieve our goals. Trivial pursuits can be time-consuming and may not lead to long-term benefits.
When it comes to education, many people still have a different perception of it. In many parts of the world, particularly in Africa, education is still a luxury for many. Many families are willing to invest their resources in their childrenβs education but often lack the financial means to achieve it. Therefore, it is essential to make education more accessible, affordable, and equitable. This is the main reason why governments, international organizations, and civil society are working together to address the educational challenges faced by many countries. Some of the efforts include: β’ Promoting Quality Education: Ensuring that educational institutions provide high-quality education to students, with well-qualified teachers, modern infrastructure, and adequate resources. This can be achieved through teacher training programs, curriculum development, and infrastructure development. For example, the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) was established to raise funds for the development of educational infrastructure in Ghana. β’ Increasing Access to Education: Expanding educational opportunities for all, particularly disadvantaged groups, through programs such as free or low-cost education, scholarships, and vocational training. For instance, the Kenyan government introduced a free primary education policy, which has significantly increased access to education for millions of children. β’ Improving Education Governance: Strengthening educational governance systems, ensuring accountability, and promoting transparency in educational decision-making. This can be achieved through policies such as decentralization, community engagement, and public participation. For example, the Ugandan government has implemented a decentralized education system, which has improved educational governance and accountability. β’ Addressing Inequality: Reducing educational inequality by promoting inclusive education, addressing issues such as poverty, and providing support services for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
As my mates are living happily with their achievements at this time, l am still trying to make ends meet with my year 10 certificate.
